The family of Howard Wasdin, the author of SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper has reached out to share their side of the story.
According to the several members of the Wasdin family the book published by Howard should be classified as fiction instead of non-fiction, because so many of the facts in the book appear to be made up.
The family recently has launched a campaign to clear the reputation of the authors deceased father Leon Wasdin.
“We are extremely dissapointed in Howard’s book” said Ron Wasdin, the brother of Leon Wasdin and the authors uncle. “Howard has lost respect with many people especially from his Mother, sisters and all relatives.”
His Stepfather, Leon, was not abusive. Howard did not weigh 3lbs at birth and he did not come home in a shoebox. He weighed over 5 lbs. He actually wanted Leon to adopt him and he was never forced to take the Wasdin name. He could have changed his name to Wilbanks which is his biological father’s name at any time. Leon provided for his family and treated all his children equally.
If you were to ask any active Seal, their opinion would be that you do not go against the oath and never disclose information about Special Operations. However, we can give credit to him being a Navy Seal, but he should have written about his personal Seal history and left the family alone.
According to family members of Wasdin, many of the other facts in the book were made up and they are willing to stand together as a family to prove it. However the most important thing to the Wasdin family is setting the record straight and clearing the name Leon Wasdin, who was a loving father, husband, and brother.

I’m grateful you published our article. My father was a great man. To hear his memory smeared the way it has been is very upsetting. I wish every little girl could have a father such as mine. I always thought he hung the moon just for me. I specially liked the part the family is coming together. Isn’t that what family is suppose to do? Happy Father’s Day, daddy.

Seals aren’t made, their born. He was created, i find Leon to be essential in the creation of the strength of this man. I think Wasdin, clearly cherishes his family name, and doesn’t hold a grudge, yet holds his head high, alluding to Leon’s punishments as strength building. A man who took to serious combat, doesn’t lie about his father for a book. Children suffer much worse in the other worlds, and here in our political society our warriors are born in other ways.
